Academic Registrar and Head of Governance

The Academic Registrar is the Director of the Academic Registry and has delegated responsibility from the COO for a number of key activities including student immigration compliance, information governance (working closely with IT Services) and Competition and Markets Authority compliance in relation to educational activity, The role also acts as Head of Governance, advising on the overall governance of the University, compliance with external governance codes and overseeing arrangements for the operation of the University’s committee system.

Information governance, governance and staff with cross-Registry responsibilities are based in the Academic Registrar’s Office. The Deputy Academic Registrar is a member of the Academic Registrar’s Office and has particular responsibilities in relation to co-ordination of staffing and operations, budget management and process improvement and digital systems.

Both the Academic Registrar and Deputy Academic Registrar contribute to the leadership and management of a range of significant University projects which change over time.

Key duties include:

  • Overall leadership and management of the Academic Registry including oversight of budget of around £3m.
  • Contributing to the leadership of the University via membership of the Professional Services Leadership Team and University Leadership Group.
  • Co-ordination of responses to major external developments working with colleagues in other services and Schools.
  • Support and advice to the PVC (E&SE) and Associate Pro Vice-Chancellor (Doctoral College) in their areas of responsibility, ensuring that Academic Registry services are provided in line with University strategy (this includes membership of relevant committees).
  • Provision of senior level advice on procedures and individual cases relating to student rights and responsibilities (e.g. complaints, appeals, student discipline, academic misconduct).
  • High level leadership of arrangements for student information related IT projects, including LUSI enhancements.
  • Responsible to COO for implementation of Student visa/immigration compliance.
  • Secretary of Senate and Governance and Nominations Committee.
  • General oversight of operation of governance/committee systems.
  • Work in partnership with other senior colleagues on the co-ordination of delivery of the student experience and education partnership developments.
  • Currently chairing International Mobility Team which co-ordinates student exchanges.
