Welcome to the Library 13: How do I access online materials when off-campus?

We recommend that you use the University's Cisco AnyConnect VPN Client to use online resources off-campus. You can download and install the VPN via the links below.




Alternatively once you have found the database platform you want to search look for the login options and search for Loughborough University in the list - this is usually called institutional or shibboleth login. You will then be able to login using your University IT account username and password.

Multi Factor Authentication to Access Library Materials

As part of a programme of IT security enhancements, IT Services have rolled out Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for students and staff. To access Library resources while studying off-campus you will need to authenticate before logging on via the VPN. Access while you are on campus is not affected.

What do I need to do?

To ensure you are ready for the roll-out of MFA, follow these basic steps:

1.Download the Duo Mobile app from the Apple App Store or Google Play.

2.Open up your browser and type in

3.Log in using your University username and password and follow the on-screen instructions

4.Enable push notifications on your smart device so you can approve requests for authentication.

Those who do not follow the instructions above in time for the roll-out are at risk of not being able to use University systems such as email and parts of the website including Learn and Library resources

How will it work?

Once you’ve enrolled in Duo Mobile you’ll be ready to go.

When you try to access University services after you have entered your login details, you will receive a push notification from Duo Mobile asking you to accept the request.
