Access to Dawsonera ebooks

Access to Dawsonera ebooks

The company that owns the Dawsonera ebook platform has unfortunately gone into administration and therefore all Dawsonera ebooks that the Library has purchased will no longer be accessible via this platform from Thursday 30th July onwards. The Library is in the process of transferring the 4,000 ebooks that we owned on this platform to an alternative provider, VLeBooks, and we are optimistic that we will be able to do this for the vast majority of the ebooks we purchased from Dawsons. Unfortunately there is likely to be a short period of time where we no longer have access to these ebooks via Dawsonera and haven’t yet obtained access to these ebooks via VLeBooks, the new platform.

Once the transfer of ebooks to the new platform has been completed the Library catalogue will be updated with the new urls for accessing  Dawsonera ebooks on the VLeBook platform.

The Library will also update all links on the Reading List system with the new urls although this will take time as it is a manual process and there are a lot of links.

Things for users to be aware of:

  • If you have made any notes/annotation to Dawsonera ebooks on the platform these will need to be downloaded as they will be lost once the platform is closed down at the end of July.
  • Bookmarks to Dawsonera ebooks will no longer work and will need to be updated with VLeBook urls once they are available
  • The Library is arranging for these ebooks to be hosted on a new platform so we will not lose access to them although there may be a short period of time when they are unavailable whilst the transfer of content is arranged.
  • The Library will update the Catalogue and the Reading List system with the new urls as soon as we can

If you have any  queries or concerns about this, please don't hesitate to contact me, Jane Bramley (J.C.Bramley@lboro.ac.uk) and I will endeavour to answer them for you.
