Changes coming in January 2021 to Outlook on the web (Webmail)

From January 2021, IT Services will be carrying out work on the University Email system, applying changes to the ‘Reply’ default setting for both Staff and Student email when using an internet browser

HOW DOES THIS AFFECT ME?

Following the change, staff and students accessing their mailbox via Outlook on the web (webmail), will experience the new default setting when responding to an email. The new setting will display ‘Reply’ instead of ‘Reply All’. The option to ‘Reply All’, will still be available by selecting this from the ‘more actions’ list.

We recommend that staff and students exercise caution and reply appropriately when responding to email in all clients (either desktop or on various portable devices).

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS TO STAFF AND STUDENTS OF THE UNIVERSITY?

Improved security with data sharing, reducing the likelihood of unintended email distribution and the associated risk of a data breach.

TIMESCALE?

From mid January 2021 the default setting will start to be applied, beginning with staff mailboxes before moving on to students.

Please note that new accounts from 26th November will already have this setting.
