Planned maintenance: Automatic addition of Shared Mailbox in Outlook
9:35AM, 18 October 2021
From 25th October, IT Services will be implementing a new process for the *Shared Mailbox service. This may affect some users of Outlook.
At present, the service uses group membership to grant access to shared mailboxes, but this does not automatically add mailboxes to a person’s Outlook profile (Navigation/Folder pane area).
The new process, known as automapping, will automatically update users access in Outlook when they are added to or removed from the appropriate shared mailbox group.
This process will be implemented to run overnight, and access to shared mailboxes will be visible the following day, usually within an hour of starting Outlook.
Automapping will not remove manually added shared mailboxes. Therefore, if you no longer require access to shared mailbox, please refer to ‘How do I delete a Shared Mailbox? What can I do if I need one restoring?’ on the Shared Mailbox tab.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS TO STUDENTS AND STAFF OF THE UNIVERSITY?
Improved user experience when requiring access to a shared mailbox.
The automapping process will commence on Monday 25th October and is expected to complete by Thursday 28th October 2021.
