Description of the Works
UPDATE MAY 2024
E&FM is currently mid programme in the demolition of the Whitworth Tower.
The contractors current programme of works uses a robotic breaker/ cruncher for the next 6/7 weeks to demolish inwards. From the third floor the demolition will transition to a ground-based Hydraulic crusher as used for the demolition of the Chemistry Building. The ground-based operation tends to be less disruptive.
Work on the demolition of Whitworth Tower is active between the hours of 8.00am and approx. 4.30pm
Timescale
Works started week commencing Monday 4th March 2024 and are programmed to complete in the of Summer 2024.
WHY DOES THE WORK NEED TO BE DONE/WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS TO STUDENTS AND STAFF OF THE UNIVERSITY?
The demolition of Whitworth Tower is a key component of the future development of the village and will enable us to enhance the accommodation we can offer our students. It will also improve the appearance of the estate whilst reducing our environmental impact.
HOW WILL THE WORKS AFFECT ME?
Unfortunately, as with any construction project, there will be some disruption, specifically noise and dust, albeit every effort will be made to keep this to a minimum.
HEALTH AND SAFETY
For your own safety and that of others, Facilities Management and the contractors would request that you assist by taking note of the works that are in progress and alternative routes that may be signed.
