New Campus accomodation and Elite Athlete Centre

Almost £50 million is being invested in a new hall of residence in the heart of the campus.

The new hall will provide 617 new student bedrooms.

The hall will incorporate the UK’s first Active Campus – site wide facilities providing outstanding recreation and fitness opportunities.  It will be an exceptional environment where students can study and relax in spaces specifically designed to support learning, health and wellbeing.

Being built due to ongoing demand from new and returning students for places in halls, the new accommodation will be a complex of ten multi-storey buildings.  There will be a mix of en-suite rooms and cluster flats with shared kitchen facilities.

The halls of residence will also include cycle storage and a central hub that can be used as a common room by students.

An on-site warden team will provide full pastoral support to students living in the new hall.

By building the new accommodation complex the University anticipates a reduction in the demand by students for private housing off campus within Loughborough.

The accommodation will be built in two phases.  The first blocks will be complete for the start of the 2018 academic year, with the remaining blocks being ready for occupation for the same time in 2019.

On the same site will be an innovative Elite Athlete Centre and Hotel. Providing quality accommodation incorporating unique features designed to support top sports performers, the complex will cement Loughborough’s status as the UK’s premier training environment for sport.

The first of its kind in the UK, the Elite Athlete Centre and Hotel will provide 44 four-star bedroom facilities.

It will provide an ideal environment for team training camps for all athletes both with disabilities and those who are able-bodied. Situated alongside an array of sporting facilities on campus, the centre will be unparalleled in the UK.

The individual bedrooms are all designed to be flexible by having large doorways and moveable furniture.  They will include wet rooms to be accessible for any elite athlete. In addition, twenty rooms will have the capacity to adjust climatic altitude conditions up to 5000m, enabling athletes to sleep high and train low without the need to leave the country, helping to enhance performance capability.

Due for completion in September 2018, the centre and hotel will also support the complex dietary requirements of athletes. A specialist nutrition room will be provided with the ability to deliver up to 150 covers per sitting to allow whole team training camps to be accommodated along with our resident athletes. In addition the nutrition room and kitchen will also educate athletes in nutrition showing them how to prepare meals and stay healthy.

The rest and relaxation needs of athletes on-site will also be covered. A specifically designed room will allow both guests and resident athletes to recover between and after training sessions.

Whilst The Elite Athlete Centre and Hotel is designed with the top athlete in mind, other guests will be able to take advantage of the facilities on offer. They will appeal to a range of organisations looking for team building activities inspired by the unique sporting environment that elite athletes pass through.

You can follow the construction of the development through the project website which includes a live webcam facility.
