Learning support mentors work with disabled students, primarily on the autistic spectrum, to provide practical and organisational help by maintaining regular contact with a caseload of students through meetings and email/telephone contact.  The role is designed to help students with their personal organisation, and planning to managing their workload, liaising with academic departments as required and providing a point of contact for students who may need some support in settling into the university environment.

As such mentors provide a range of practical support to students, for instance orientation support, library support, or support to establish social contacts.  They may also liaise with other support services and teams within the Counselling and Disability Service to ensure appropriate arrangements and support are in place for students receiving mentoring.
