Leave of Absence

We recognise that the decision to return to learning after a gap is usually a big one. We also recognise that students’ mental health issues or difficulties fluctuate during their studies or while on a leave of absence.

If you are planning to, or are, returning to study after deferring or taking a leave of absence due to mental health difficulties, you may wish to get in touch with the Mental Health Support Team prior to re-starting.

Our support while on a leave of absence would be to ensure a co-ordinated approach to your progression, and develop this to ensure that mental health difficulties experienced in previous years are considered and arrangements or support put in place to minimise their impact on your studies.

The Mental Health Support Team can help in a number of ways by:

If you do not wish to access support then, as with any student, you continue to be welcome to use the whole range of student support at Loughborough University.

If you wish to access support, please let us know as soon as possible so we can make arrangements. Prior to the start of term, or early in the term, this would be easy to arrange; however, any requests later in the term may be subject to a waiting list owing to the demands for this kind of support. Please contact us when you are ready.

Please also refer to our Frequently Asked Questions for some more answers to questions you may have.
