The Loughborough Enterprise Network will be hosting an exciting and interactive workshop to prepare you for the Spring Fair.

You’ll have the opportunity to plan ‘how to pitch yourself well’ to employers in attendance and, by considering this in advance, you’ll be prepared to really showcase your skills and leverage your networks effectively.

The session will be practical, providing you with time to practice, as well as offering hints and approaches for ‘pitching yourself’ and telling your story effectively. You can book your place online.

In this session, we’ll look at the ways that you can make a career out of your passion for Writing and/or an English or Creative Writing degree. We’ll look, specifically, at how to diversity and the different ways you can do this with your skillset from writing and your degree. For example, we’ll look at how to make a career in running and facilitating workshops, freelancing in copywriting, editing and proofreading, the significance of Creative Writing and English in careers in Marketing and more. Come along and be prepared to be inspired by the power behind the pen!

Dr Sophie-Louise Hyde is a poet, writing tutor, entrepreneur, tea enthusiast & founder of Wordsmith_HQ (formerly The Student Wordsmith). She began her career in writing and publishing ten years ago and specialises in verbatim and digital poetry. Sophie also works as an adviser to students wishing to start their own business at Loughborough University while overseeing Wordsmith_HQ.

Matthew will deliver a session on becoming a marketeer for one of the world’s biggest spirit companies. He will discuss his journey from being a student at Loughborough, and his 20-year career in marketing, working for a range of businesses in his earlier years. Matthew has most recently been working as a Senior Director of Global Marketing for Bacardi, a role which sees him based in the UK with some overseas travel. Matthew has responsibility for all global (non-US) markets which includes PR, Social and Digital media, advocacy and more. He leads on the global strategy and vision of the organisation and manages a team of regional directors whilst also managing budgets, partnerships and brand.

Patrick’s career in fashion has spanned over a decade. In 2005, after leaving a career in Engineering, he took over as Director at Savile Row tailor Norton & Sons. He won much praise for his work there including being named Retailer of the Year at the 2008 Scottish Fashion Awards. In December 2010 he won the Menswear Designer of the Year award at the British Fashion Awards and in May 2015 he was awarded the BFC/ GQ Designer Menswear Fund both for his work on menswear brand E. Tautz which he re-launched in 2009.

In 2015 Patrick purchased the ailing Blackburn clothing manufacturer Cookson & Clegg, saving the factory from closure. This was followed in 2016 with the launch of social enterprise Community Clothing in response to the extreme challenges facing the British clothing and textile manufacturing industry earning him support and praise from across the political spectrum.

Patrick is a regular on television and radio as a commentator on the British fashion, clothing and textile industries. He has been a contributor to several major television documentaries including Savile Row, Harris Tweed, and The Perfect Suit, but is best known for his role in the BBC2 Series The Great British Sewing Bee, for which he was nominated for the 2017 National Television Awards. He has written on diverse subjects for many titles including GQ, The Financial Times and The Times. His book ‘Original Man’ was published by Gestalten in 2014. He is a regular lecturer at schools and colleges across the UK.
