What to bring

  • Packed lunch - there will not be anywhere to buy food on the day, but evening refreshments will be provided.
  • Portfolio – for Graphic Communication and Illustration, Fine Art and Design students.
  • CV – there will be opportunities throughout the day to network with employers. Bring along an updated CV and impress them with your passion, talent and creativity!

What to wear:

Dress to impress, but remember this is an event for the creative and media industries, so jeans and smart trainers are fine. No need for a business suit.

Effective Networking:

This is an opportunity to ask for advice and information directly from industry experts, and to develop potential future contacts.

Become a networking pro by following these three simple steps:

Step 1 - Ask representatives about their own career paths. All representatives will have interesting career histories – you’ll learn a lot by talking to them about their experiences. For example:

  • “Can you describe your current role?”
  • “What skills/qualifications/experiences were vital in getting you into this career area?”

Step 2 - Ask for advice on further opportunities for networking, training and experience. Even if representatives are unable to offer jobs or work experience in their organisation, they may be able to help you answer the following questions:

  • “Might it be possible to spend a day work-shadowing you or someone in your organisation?”
  • “Is there anybody else it might be useful for me to speak to?”
  • “Can you suggest useful sources of information for finding work placements, jobs, etc.?”

Step 3 - Collect cards/contact details of people who have helped you at the event. Ask them if it would be possible to contact them in future for further help. If the answer is yes:

  • Find out how and when they prefer to be contacted (and if they’d be happy to connect with you on LinkedIn).
  • Consider what you could offer your contact in return for their help.
