Student Enterprise Manager and Enterprise Adviser (Loughborough)
Sophie is an experienced creative entrepreneur and is currently responsible for leading the University’s Student Enterprise team across both our Loughborough and London campuses. She has six years’ experience of running her own writing and publishing venture and uses this to regularly advise and support our students and graduates to develop the skills and knowledge needed to kickstart their ideas and turn their businesses into a reality.
As an adviser, Sophie leads on 1:1 appointments for our East Midlands based students and runs two programmes of workshops and training for them from our Start-Up Lab co-working space. She is also responsible for overseeing our Start-Up Fund and Enterprise Internships.
Birgit Lewis BA (Hons) Product Design, MA Design, Strategy and Innovation, Member of AGCAS
Skills and Employability Development Manager
Birgit is responsible for developing students' skills and employability through a range of university wide initiatives, optimising opportunities for Loughborough University students to gain experiences and skills and abilities to articulate these. Initiatives include mentoring, networking, work shadowing and employability programmes.
Birgit has a background in design, innovation and management and worked in Branding Consultancies as well as setting up and running her own ceramics business. She has worked in higher education for the last 15 years developing students' employability skills.
Hayley Jones BA Geography and Sports Management
Student Enterprise Adviser (Loughborough London)
Hayley has supported the development of start-up businesses and enterprise in Higher Education for the past three years and is now our Student Enterprise Adviser at the Loughborough University in London campus. Prior to this, Hayley worked in banking.
Supporting students and young start-ups motivates Hayley as she wants to make a difference by empowering the next generation of entrepreneurs. She is passionate about innovation and enterprise and it is Hayley’s role to inspire London-based students to get involved in bigger-scale activities and events including: Creative Hacks, Venture Crawl, LEN Nights and entrepreneurial competitions and conferences.
Dr Salman Malik BEng Biomedical Engineering, MSc in Biomaterials, PhD in Biomaterials Engineering, Enterprise Fellowship (RSE)
Resident Entrepreneur / Business Adviser (Loughborough London)
Dr Salman Malik (Sal) is an experienced entrepreneur and ex-scientist based part-time at Loughborough University London as Loughborough Enterprise Network (LEN)’s Resident Entrepreneur.
Sal supports students at the London campus to develop the skills and knowledge they need to get started in business. He is actively involved in running workshops, running 1:1 appointments with students, and supports the team with enterprise events and activities hosted across LEN.
Sophie has 4 years of Higher Education careers experience, providing students and graduates with internship support and offering additional tailored support for graduates. She has spent the last year as an Employability Development Officer, in the Careers Network team providing careers information and advice to students through Quick Advice appointments, drop-ins, presentations and workshops.
