Applying for accommodation as an undergraduate student

If you are applying to study as an undergraduate student at Loughborough there are lots of options for living on campus in our halls of residences. We're here to guide you through the process and support you every step of the way.

You don’t need to do anything to secure your accommodation until after you have replied to your offer on UCAS. Once you have replied to your offers, the process is different depending on whether you've made Loughborough your firm or insurance choice.

Applications for accommodation are made using our online accommodation system. Refer to our step-by-step guide for key dates on when you can apply.

Take a look at all the halls we have available to see all the different options. We recommend you have a list ready of your preferred room options when the time comes for you to start your accommodation application. Don’t just have one choice - all our halls have excellent reputations so you can have a range of preferences.

Step-by-step guide

Step-by-step guide

Firm choice applicants

Our firm choice guarantee

If you make Loughborough your firm choice and you register for your accommodation before 26 July, we will guarantee you a room in University accommodation for your first year of study.

If you are an international fee paying student and you meet these criteria, we will guarantee you accommodation for two years of study provided you apply for your accommodation before the January deadline of the second year.

You will be able to register for accommodation online from late May – the Student Accommodation Centre will email you then with instructions on how to do this. Other than researching your options, you do not need to do anything before then.

If your offer has conditions attached, such as achieving specific qualifications, your accommodation can not be confirmed until these conditions have been met which is usually after the A Level results are released in August. We will contact you with more information in July about the process that you will need to follow to secure University accommodation if your application to Loughborough is successful. Once your accommodation has been confirmed, you will be invited to complete our hall induction process online where you can book an arrival slot for your allocated move-in date.

If you make Loughborough your firm choice you can choose where you want to live from a selection of room types in a variety of locations.

Room reservation

If Loughborough is your firm choice and you registered for your accommodation before 26 July, you will be given a time slot to reserve your room in halls of residence. Room reservation takes place on 17-18 August. Watch our short video that takes you through the reservation process and what you need to prepare in advance.

If you have not met the criteria for our accommodation guarantee, you will still be given a time slot to apply for your accommodation. However, you will be asked to select five room preferences.

Your preferences will be used as a guide but we cannot guarantee that you’ll be offered one of your preferred rooms.

Insurance choice applicants

You do not need to take any action regarding your accommodation until August, when you have received your results and your place is confirmed. It is at this point you will be able to apply for accommodation and you can refer to our step-by-step guide.

You will be able to select five preferences based on an area of campus, room type and catering option. Please note that accommodation is not guaranteed for insurance choice students, but we do promise to help you secure University allocated accommodation either on campus or by referral to an approved off-campus provider.

We do our best to help students who apply as an insurance student to find accommodation. Where possible we will offer places in halls subject to availability.

Once you have accepted an unconditional offer as Insurance or through Clearing, you will be able to apply for University accommodation from 10am on 21 August.
