Covid-19 – information for January 2021: Living in Halls of Residence
Current Residents in Hall
Returning to Loughborough after the Christmas Vacation
Following the Prime Minister’s recent announcement and the communication from the University’s Chief Operating Officer on 5 January, if you have not already returned to your room you should avoid doing so unless you meet the criteria set out below. We recognise, however, that some students will already have returned and therefore have provided some further information.
Students currently residing in University Halls. We would like to offer reassurance that our accommodation will remain open throughout, if you are already on campus and are living in our halls accommodation you can continue to do so, our catered halls service will continue to operate. We would still ask you to be tested before you access any facilities outside of hall. Please follow the link here to book a test. Students remaining in halls will continue to be charged accommodation fees as per their contract.
Please note that you should not move back and forth between your permanent home and student home during term time.
Students currently at home/not residing in University Halls. If you are currently living away from campus you should only return to your room if you meet one of the following criteria:
- You have already arranged international travel to the UK,
- You do not have adequate space / facilities at home to study or undertake examinations,
- You consider that your mental health would be negatively affected if you remain at home,
- You are part of an elite sport performance pathway.
If you do not meet these criteria and will therefore not be returning to Loughborough before 7 February, we wish to reassure you that you will not be charged for the Term 2 accommodation fees from 11 January to 7 February 2021, i.e. 4 weeks rent for the period that you are not able to occupy your accommodation. Spot checks will be conducted on those claiming this rebate to ensure that students are not occupying accommodation during this period. You will not qualify for the discount if you return to Loughborough and reside temporarily in an alternative room either on or off campus.
If you are not returning to Loughborough during this period and wish to claim the 4-week rebate, please complete our online Accommodation Credit Request Form.
Please note the following:
- As term 2 accommodation charges have already been billed, you will receive this rebate as a credit on your account. This credit will be applied against your future charges later on in the academic year.
- You will receive a statement of your student account on Thursday 7 January. This will include the full term 2 charge, you should continue to pay this in line with normal payment timescales as set out in your accommodation contract.
Please read the information on our Accommodation – Covid-19 information page. Hopefully we have also addressed many of your queries on our webpage which contains further details on any action you need to take and we will be in touch with semester 2 arrangements (ie for weeks after 7 Feb) when we have reviewed our semester and term start and end dates.
If you are returning to Loughborough from within the UK
If you are returning to hall from a location in the UK you must take a free Covid-19 Lateral Flow Test on your day of return before mixing with others. Please follow the link here to book a test. It is vital that you stick to the slot you have chosen once you have booked as this will help us ensure we can get everyone tested.
If you return a positive test, we will support you to isolate safely before you are able to move back into your allocated room – this will mean your household will not have to isolate. We will additionally offer everyone the opportunity to take a free second test some days later if you would like to do so.
If you are returning to Loughborough from outside the UK
If you are returning to hall from outside the UK, please check the Foreign Office Travel Advice pages to establish whether there is an approved travel corridor between the UK and the country you are returning from.
If there is no travel corridor you will need to quarantine. From 15th December the UK moved to a test and release model for quarantine which means that you can leave quarantine if you test negative on day 5 of your quarantine period. If you need to book yourself in for a test for this reason please use the link here and select the ‘test and release’ option.
Please email email@example.com to advise the date of your return so we can arrange your catering provision and support.
If there is a travel corridor between the UK and the country you are returning from you will not need to quarantine but we would still ask you to book a lateral flow test. You can do so here.
We greatly appreciate your support in helping us to avoid importing cases of Covid onto campus after Christmas so that the risk of students having to self-isolate will be greatly reduced.
Please also take a look at our FAQs here.
