Winter Ceremonies celebrate honorary graduates

This coming Monday - 17 December - will see hundreds of students attend their official graduation ceremony to celebrate the completion of their undergraduate or postgraduate degree at Loughborough University.

It also provides the University with an opportunity to award distinguished members of society with honorary degrees in recognition of the outstanding contributions they have made to industry, academia, business, sport, the arts and society.

Among the recipients this December is Dr Jill Vincent - former Assistant Director of the Centre for Research in Social Policy at Loughborough University and former Mayor of Charnwood (2010/2011) – she will be presented with the award in recognition of her outstanding service to the local community and its links to the University, and her very significant contributions to research in the Social Sciences.

Dr Vincent has been involved in many charities and voluntary organisations in the Loughborough community including the National Homeless Alliance, Voluntary Action Charnwood and Involve: Leicestershire Limited.

On hearing that she will receive the accolade, Dr Vincent said:

“'I am delighted and grateful to the University for awarding me an honorary degree. It is indeed an honour.

“I count myself lucky to have loved my work and my political, voluntary and community sector activities, so it is a particular pleasure to be recognised in this way.”

Also being recognised is Mr Herbert Hainer - Chief Executive Officer at adidas AG - in recognition of his outstanding leadership within the sports equipment business sector and Mr Michael Spencer - Chief Executive ICAP plc – for his outstanding success in building ICAP plc into one of the major success stories of the British economy over the past two decades.

All three will be presented with the award Honorary Doctor of the University.
