Honorary degree awarded to Lord Wolfson

The Lord Wolfson of Marylebone has been presented with an honorary degree from Loughborough University in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the advancement of health, education, arts and the humanities. The degree – Honorary Doctor of Letters (Hon DLitt) – was conferred upon him by the University Chancellor, Sir Denis Rooke, on Monday 30 June at The Science Museum in London.

The Right Honourable the Lord Wolfson, FBA, is a founder trustee of the Wolfson Foundation – which supports health, education and youth activities – and has been its chairman since 1972. He has also been, in turn, a director, managing director and chairman of the Great Universal Stores, as well as chairman of Burberry’s Ltd.

Educated at King’s School, Worcester, Lord Wolfson is a Fellow of the Israel Museum, and an Honorary Fellow of numerous university colleges, including St Catherine’s College Oxford, University College London (UCL) and the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). He was president of the Jewish Welfare Board for ten years until 1982, a trustee of the Imperial War Museum from 1988 to 1994, and received the Winston Churchill Award from the British Technion Society in 1989.

Son of the late Sir Isaac and Lady Edith Wolfson, Lord Wolfson is married with four daughters, one step son and a step daughter.
