Dr Oliver Hooper has been awarded the esteemed AIESEP Young Scholar Award

Dr Hooper has been awarded the esteemed AIESEP Young Scholar Award in recognition for his research that explores young people’s experiences within physical education, health, and youth sport contexts, with a specific focus on the experiences of marginalised youth.

A Research and Teaching Associate in the School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences, Oliver’s research to date has focussed on youth voice and the use of participatory methods to facilitate young people’s meaningful involvement in research.

Oliver’s most recent paper discusses trauma-aware pedagogies within physical education, while his latest research project examines sport clubs as 'missing spaces' for young people in care, with initial findings expected in spring 2023.

“I’m absolutely delighted to be a recipient of the AIESEP Young Scholar Award for 2021. As the most prestigious award an early career researcher in my field can receive, it is truly an honour to be selected this year,” he said.

“Thanks has to go to the many wonderful colleagues who have supported my career to date, without whom this wouldn’t have been possible.”

Dr Hooper was nominated for award by Loughborough colleague Dr Rachel Sandford and Dr Fiona Chambers.
