Textual editing and interpretation

Sharing digital innovation and best practice over four centuries of textual scholarship.

We have a world-leading reputation as textual editors of Aphra Behn, Evelyn Waugh, and James Joyce, and broader specialism in Quaker women's, Romantic and Victorian texts.

In a discipline often bound by period, we believe that digitally-assisted methods of collation, use of corpus linguistics and collaborative working tools are relevant to all textual editors and we work together to create and share best practice across all eras of textual scholarship.

Spotlight on: The Cambridge Edition of the Works of Aphra Behn

2021 saw the publication of Volume IV of The Cambridge Edition of the Works of Aphra Behn, Plays 1682–1696. The TLS has praised the volume’s ‘full command of modern historical scholarship’, its comprehensive footnotes, and the ‘extreme care’ with it has been produced. Prof Elaine Hobby leads the project, and you can take a sneak peak at what the team are working on next by clicking the button below.
