The Department of Mathematical Sciences is delighted to invite you to attend the Annual Sir David Wallace Lecture which this year will be given by Prof James Maynard (Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford), titled “The Magic of Prime Numbers”.

James Maynard is a Professor of Number Theory at the Mathematical Institute, University of Oxford, and a fellow of St John’s College, Oxford. His research field is analytic number theory. James Maynard made several breakthroughs and solved several longstanding conjectures in the theory of prime numbers’ distribution. Prof Maynard is a recipient of the SASTRA Ramanujan Prize (2014), Whitehead Prize (2015), EMS Prize (2016), and Cole Prize in number theory (2020).  He was awarded the Fields Medal 2022 for "contributions to analytic number theory, which have led to major advances in the understanding of the structure of prime numbers and in Diophantine approximations”.
