Alumnus wins University Student Innovation Award at LeicestershireLive Innovation Awards

Alumnus Joseph Bentley (Product Design and Technology BSc, 2021) was amongst nine Loughborough University award winners at the LeicestershireLive Innovation Awards.

Loughborough University’s research and innovation activities enjoyed outstanding success last night at the LeicestershireLive Innovation Awards, receiving nine awards including seven of the ten categories, as well as the overall Innovator of the Year and a Special Recognition Award.

Joseph Bentley founded ACT Medical in LU Inc. to accelerate the development of a device to reduce catastrophic blood loss from a knife wound. The device has already received significant recognition for its potential, most recently receiving the International James Dyson Medical Award.

The LeicestershireLive Innovation Awards 2022 took place on 24 Feburary, and ACT Medical was awarded the University Student Innovation Award. ACT Medical was also a finalist in the Innovation in Med Tech and Life Sciences category.

The LeicestershireLive Innovation Awards celebrates the very best technology, services, digital advances, and creative thinking that the region has to offer. These awards celebrate the individuals, teams, businesses and public sector bodies that are leading the way in research and development and in manufacturing techniques, software and digital technologies.

Overall, Loughborough University recorded 17 nominations across seven categories in the 2022 LeicestershireLive Innovation Awards.
