Lane wins Loughborough’s final medal of Rio 2016
Alumna Crystal Lane won Loughborough’s final medal of the Rio 2016 Olympic and Paralympic Games, her second medal of The Games taking Loughborough’s Paralympic tally to 22.

Sophie Hahn and Richard Whitehead added silver medals to the golds they won earlier in the Paralympic Games, with Brent Lakatos winning bronze to take Loughborough’s medal tally to 19, which if the university was a country would put it ninth on the medal table.

Loughborough University graduate Liam Heath completed his set of Olympic medals as he took gold with a stunning victory in the K1 200m canoe sprint, whilst Vicky Holland, Emily Diamond and Anyika Onuora won bronze on the penultimate day of Rio 2016

Former Olympic champion turned TV presenter Chris Boardman visited Loughborough University earlier this summer to test what effect the conditions in Rio de Janeiro will have on cyclists competing at the Olympic Games.

Neel Deshpande is a second year Sports Management student at Loughborough University. After having been part of the Coach and Volunteer Academy (CVA) throughout his two years, he has done extremely well to earn a place as a volunteer at this year’s Rio Olympics.

Four former Loughborough University students and one current student have been selected for Great Britain hockey for the upcoming Champions Trophy, which commences on Friday 10th June at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre.

Great Britain has named 25 players to be part of the Men’s Sevens training squad in preparation for the Rio 2016 Olympics. It is a wider squad that includes a combination of sevens specialists alongside some 15-a-side players from England, Scotland and Wales.
