New PhD Student Joins the Centre

Intelligent Automation are thrilled to announce the impending arrival of a new PhD student to the Centre

Yash Sharma will be joining us in July following the successful completion of his Master of Engineering degree in Electronics Engineering at Waterford Institute of Technology, Ireland. His Master’s thesis was based on sensing and predicting harsh environments, which was developed on a raspberry pi with sensors. His research involved machine learning approaches and mathematical modelling to improve the sensing devices.

The PhD project that Yash will be working on has the ability to change lives by improving manufacturing processes. Collaborative robots are increasing within the manufacturing industry, but to work with them we need to develop more advanced handling methodologies and technology.

Yash will have the opportunity to focus on the research and development of flexible adaptable handling within a number of possible environments, including, but not limited to: logistics, healthcare, biological materials, construction, aerospace, automotive and space.

His work will build upon world leading research in Electrostatic Adhesion and Soft Robotics, for which manufacturing processes and testing environments have already been established within our Centre. The fundamental modelling and control investigation will be underpinned with the development of prototype, proof of concept and experimental validation.

We look forward to welcoming Yash into our team next month.
