Gaurav pursued production engineering from the University of Pune in India in 2008. After working in India for 2 years as a project engineer he came to the University of Sheffield for pursuing masters in mechanical engineering and industrial management. After completing masters in 2011 he worked in industries Siemens and Intelligent Energy as a design engineer and simulation engineer respectively for 6 years.
In Siemens Gaurav worked on the electric arc furnaces to design heat exchanger components and on rolling mills to design guide system. In Intelligent energy he worked on the FEA/CFD modelling and simulation of fuel cell components. In 2017 Gaurav became chartered engineer registered with IMechE. His interest in research of renewable energy pulled him towards PhD at CREST to work on solar thermal since January 2018.
BEng Production Engineering – University of Pune, India
MSc Mechanical engineering and industrial management – University of Sheffield, UK
CEng - IMechE
STEM Best poster presentation award – Jan 2016 while he was working at Intelligent energy
Gaurav's research area includes development of solar vacuum flat plate collector by combining it with compound parabolic concentrator to increase the efficiency as well as operating temperature to 150-200° C useful for charging of compact thermal storage. He is focusing on building integration technology of flat plate collector to integrate the panel on outer façade so design challenge is to make it as thin as possible by maintaining aesthetically pleasant look.
