CREST hosts the Ambassador of Kazakhstan
19 March 2019

On Monday 18th March the Doctoral College of Loughborough University hosted the 2nd Central Asia Research Forum.  Vice Chancellor Professor Bob Allison welcomed delegates to the Sustainable Development themed event.  Several high level guests included:  His Excellency Mr Erlan Idrissov, Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the UK, Mr Michael Gifford, Her Majesty’s Ambassador to the Republic of Kazakhstan, Liberal Democrat peer Baroness Suttie and Mr Richard Everitt, Director Education and Society, Wider Europe, British Council.

Researchers from Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and UK spoke on the role of sustainable development in health, tourism, industry and energy with Dr Richard Blanchard giving an overview of CRESTs research in the energy session. Several researchers from CREST also presented posters during the networking lunch.

In the afternoon the Ambassador Mr Erlan Idrissov toured the CREST labs and was impressed with the technological innovations going on.  It is intended that further discussions will take place to see how the university can develop further collaboration opportunities with the Central Asian Region.   Many thanks to Kevin, Mohamed and Daniel for hosting the tour.
