About this event

My data is from 4 observations with the same solicitor and her clients, where a will is being discussed. I have selected extracts from the opening of 3 first-time meetings. I am interested in how the official business of making a will is started, what information is treated as relevant, and if and how the solicitor assesses client ‘suitability’ or ‘capacity’ to carry out the legal act of making a will. This will inform my PhD thesis investigating capacity law and how it is constructed in everyday life by people with dementia and their carers, and by solicitors.
