About this event

The data for this session is derived from audio-visual recordings of consultations between advanced clinical practitioners (ACP) and older, hospitalised patients, which I am collecting in order to explore how compassion is enacted within nurse-patient interaction.

The focus of the session will be on an extract of data in which the ACP introduces the topic of the patient’s confusion and proceeds to assess the patient’s cognitive function using the Abbreviated Mental Test.  I am particularly interested in how concerns that the patient is confused are introduced and how the patient’s answers to questions during the Abbreviated Mental Test are responded to by participants.
