About this event

This data is from a corpus of audio-recorded discussions between members of multi-disciplinary teams (MDTs) discussing assessment of autism. Data has been collected from four specialist autism assessment teams, two of which were in adult and two in children and young people’s services. Eighteen meetings were recorded documenting over 19 hours of meeting time and providing data related to 88 cases.

I am interested in diagnosis as a social process and the ways in which HCPs come to consensus particularly when there is conflicting evidence or contradictory narratives. For this study, I am interested in exploring how clinicians draw on particular types of evidence to resolve uncertainty, disagreement or contradiction.

Jennie is a third year PhD student at the University of Exeter
