Jack Joyce - Doing being reasonable: on orientations to a moral order

About this event

In this DARG session, I am examining what constitutes ‘reasonableness’ and how we can claim that a member presents themselves as ‘reasonable’ versus someone doing being ordinary. I suspect that reasonability is veiled ordinariness where a member invites a reflexive understanding of themselves as ‘ordinary’. I am also interested in actions being explicitly described as reasonable where they invite a supposition that the producer has the rights to claim (un)reasonability of the target. I have a hunch that these pursue progressivity over some ongoing/projectable trouble.

I will bring data from various environments where there is some degree of conflict/dispute to examine candidate presentations of ‘reasonableness’ and some data where there is an explicit orientation to a ‘reasonable’ moral order.
