About this event

Patients with intellectual disabilities attending their annual GP health check are often accompanied by a family member or paid supporter.  I am interested in how the practices associated with this supporter role are negotiated in the dynamic interplay between all participants in the health consultation.  I will present video recorded data from a project looking at health communication and people with intellectual disabilities that illustrates the preceding contexts and impacts of a supporter's contribution to the conversation.  What implications are suggested for the constitution of patient and supporter identities?’
