Value Enhanced Collaborative Working (VECW)

Context and Background

The industry norm for some years has been to gain jointly created and shared competitive advantage, using teams within a value chain. This refers to the value chain in which the key stake holders create collaboration processes for virtual integration and work as an integrated team, in the context of current project, the project title of Value Enhanced Collaborative Working (VECW) can be defined as collective work of two or more individuals, teams or organizations undertaken with a strong commitment to enhancing the value of a collaborative enterprise. It includes key concepts from management accounting, virtual enterprises, partnering and collaborative working. Creating a framework for VECW will lead to better advising, training, planning and implementing major improvement in collaborative working.

Aims and Objectives

The research aim is to develop a framework for implementing major performance improvements that includes a comprehensive portfolio of tools and processes (from existing and new developments) for value enhanced collaborative working. This will have multi-sector application.

The objectives of the project are:

1. To review previous studies on concurrent engineering and collaborative working;
2. To review existing tools and techniques for collaborative working;
3. To identify and implement, as appropriate within the ServQ context, potential improvements to the tools and techniques reviewed. This will include further development and refinement of the Beacon Lite TM and BeaconTM prototype systems;
4. To develop an integrated approach to Value Enhanced Collaborative Working;
5. To develop, evaluate, trial and test (with relevant end users) an integrated system/toolkit for the delivery of the new approach; and
6. To prepare relevant documentation and manuals for the implementation of the new Framework.

Method

A detailed critical literature review
A review of tools currently available to identify/implement suitable improvements as appropriate.
To develop case studies for further study.
To develop a roadmap for Value Enhanced Collaborative Working leading to an integrated system/toolkit for delivering the new approach.
Evaluate the new toolkit using ServQ’s clients and others.
