Innovation and Enterprise MOOC begins

More than 13,000 learners from around the world, including the US, India and China, have taken their first steps in innovation and enterprise as they embark on Loughborough University’s inaugural MOOC (massive open online course).

Offered as part of FutureLearn, the first UK-led provider of MOOCs, the enterprise and innovation course will enable students to find out more about entrepreneurs and innovators, how to spot opportunities and transform bright ideas into something tangible.

The course was launched on 14 April and will last for six weeks.

The delivery of the course is being led by Loughborough’s School of Business and Economics.

Professor Angus Laing, Dean of the School, said: "This development allows the School of Business and Economics to share our expertise in innovation and enterprise with a wider audience than we can reach in the classroom. In this it forms part of the School's commitment to promote start-ups and support the growth of small and medium enterprises."

The FutureLearn course experience centres on social interaction, engaging students in conversations around the learning material. The website is designed to work on smartphones and tablets, as well as desktop computers, so that learners can access the material easily, regardless of their location.

Anyone wishing to join Loughborough’s course should go to the Innovation and Enterprise website to sign up.

Loughborough’s second MOOC – Getting a grip on mathematical symbolism – begins on 28 April.
