New community warden announced for Loughborough University

Ally McDonald

The University is pleased to announce the appointment of Ally McDonald as its new community warden.

Ally is currently head of innovation development at the Students’ Union where she oversees new projects for the Union, as well as working closely with the Loughborough Business Improvement District (BID) team as a co-opted board member.  She also leads on student enterprise for the Union.

A Loughborough graduate, Ally has previously worked as an assistant venue manager in the Students’ Union building.  She has excellent knowledge of Loughborough and its student communities and has lived locally for most of the last eight years.

As community warden Ally will liaise with and between students and residents living in the Storer and Burleigh areas of Loughborough to promote good relations between the two groups.  She will also co-ordinate the work of two sub wardens covering the area and support the University’s deputy and sub wardens who cover the Kingfisher, Herrick and Ashby Road Estate areas.

Ally replaces Ruth Grainger who has undertaken the role for two years.  A handover/induction programme is currently being arranged during which Ally will be introduced to a range of internal and external partners, including the Storer and Ashby Residents Group, with whom she will be closely working.

Ally’s appointment commences today, Monday 9 September and is a part-time role. She can be contacted via email: a.mcdonald@lboro.ac.uk

Commenting on her appointment Ally said: “It is really exciting to have been offered this role.  Having been a student and a resident in a number of different areas of Loughborough I have experience in many different ways that Loughborough is a great place to live.  I look forward to working with the many local groups and residents that I already know and to meeting new people involved in the local community.”

Manuel Alonso, Acting Director of Students Services said: “We know that the community wardens are valued highly in the community and we are delighted to welcome Ally to the team to carry on the excellent work of Ruth Grainger."
