The Peter Harrison Foundation has extended its financial support of the Peter Harrison Centre for Disability Sport (PHC) at Loughborough University, enabling the Centre to continue its work with Britain’s Paralympians to Rio 2016 and beyond.

Established in 2005, the PHC has established close working relationships with organisations including the British Paralympic Association (BPA) and English Institute of Sport (EIS), and has conducted extensive research with a wide range of performance sports including wheelchair basketball, wheelchair rugby and paratriathlon.

Part of Loughborough University’s School of Sport, Exercise and Health Sciences, the Centre’s work focuses on three key strands - sport science, performance health, and psycho-social health and well-being.

The additional funding, which has been increased to a five-year term, is worth over £200,000 a year to the Centre and will enable it to maintain its position as a world-leader in its field.

Dr Vicky Tolfrey, Director of the PHC, said: 

“We are extremely grateful to the Peter Harrison Foundation for their continued support of our research at Loughborough.

“By extending their support to a five-year term, not only will it take us well into the next Paralympic cycle, but it will also give us the stability to attract additional funding.”
