Helen Clarke

Operations Officer

I am the Operations Officer for the Wolfson School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering.

I manage our finance team and workload model as well as coordinate and support projects, committees and operational activities. My role involves a lot of cross-campus communication and is varied in its requirements. I have been employed at Loughborough since 1988 across a number of departments and love the place!

Outside of work, I am mother to two avid sportsmen, aged 17 and 11, and spend a lot of my spare time taking them to football and cricket games. I love to walk, listen to live music and I am a keen seamstress, knitter, crafter and DIYer. I love the process of creating things from nothing.

I am very proud of being a full time working mother. I love that I have the opportunity to be both of those things, and to succeed at both in equal measure. The world has changed a lot, but a lot is yet to be done when it comes to women’s rights. The playing field is still not level and individual negative attitudes still exist around the role of women in the world, from both men and women. I regularly fight the fight to be an individual first and a woman second. I want my two sons to know that regardless of gender, or any other defining feature, it is personal motivation that is important to a person’s ability, choices and success in life.
