Assistant Registrar (Strategic Academic Recruitment)

Ally McDonald Alonso

I am a two-time graduate of Loughborough and loved it so much I couldn’t leave.

I now work as Assistant Registrar supporting the recruitment of our most senior staff to ensure we attract outstanding leaders across our academic disciplines and professional service departments. With a 3-year-old and a 6-month-old, outside of work I am pretty much filled up with them – but it’s something I wouldn’t change. Very few things beat taking my two babies with my husband on a walk in the countryside with our dogs and watching them laugh and play together.

In the past, women stayed at home and looked after children, but now I work for a place that supports me and helps me to have a job that I love, while also raising a family – especially one very confident little lady! I have never felt so much pride that I do now having a successful career while still being able to have two children, all with the support of an amazing man who I couldn’t do it without. Having a full-time job and full-time children brings a lack of sleep, no time to yourself, stress, guilt, and a to-do list that never seems to get done. But on the days when I have done something well at work and come back to hugs and love from my children, I do feel a bit like a superhero – and International Women’s Day should be about making all women feel like superheroes!
