Abida Akram

Equality, Diversity and Inclusion Adviser

My role at Loughborough University is one of supporting, advising and training on Equality, Diversity and Inclusion matters in regards to employment and student issues.

I support staff and student groups and networks so that everyone feels more included and part of the #LboroFamily. I have worked here for eight years and really enjoy the changing nature of my role, and supporting progress and change for the better for all. Outside of work, I love reading, going to the cinema, creative writing and walking. I particularly enjoy science fiction and how changing values, ideas and technology could shape future societies. I also do voluntary work for the local Equality Action organisation which supports disadvantaged local residents in Charnwood.

International Women’s Day means a lot in that we can celebrate our achievements so far together, but we still have a long way to go, and we can only achieve success by working together. It’s a great day to network and be inspired by other women to continue the fight for equality in all aspects of society.
