A stack of four place signs named after Nelson Mandela.

Join us for ‘Named after Nelson,’ a public event exploring how places named after Nelson Mandela tell stories about memory, identity, and community.

Inspired by a walk through Nelson Mandela Park in Leicester, the evening will explore place naming, visual culture, sustainability, and caring for shared public spaces through talks and discussion. As well as the park in Leicester, Dr Yolandi Burger and Dr Everardt Burger will share insights from seven locations in South Africa.

Event schedule:

  • 6pm - Refreshments
  • 6.20pm - Welcome and Introduction
  • 6.40pm - Places named after Nelson Mandela
  • 7.30pm - Discussion and questions
  • 8pm - End
