Holocaust Memorial Week: Public Lecture by Paul Maddrell

About this event

The Preventability of the Holocaust

It is important to remember that the Holocaust could have been prevented.

This lecture examines the major steps in the sequence of events which led to the Holocaust and shows that, in each and every case, they were preventable. The movement of German society in the 1920s towards greater anti-Semitism was preventable; the Nazis’ achievement of power in 1933 was preventable; Hitler’s achievement of a dictatorial position in the regime was preventable; the outbreak of the Second World War was preventable; and the mass murder of the Jews was preventable.

The lesson of this terrible event in history is that we must all be aware of the dangers inherent in racial hatred and we must all do everything we can to prevent genocide.
