Fellowship Inaugural Lecture: Dr Petre Breazu
Romaphobia in the Age of Populism: A Comparative Study of UK and Swedish Media
Roma continue to be the poorest and most marginalised European citizens and have historically been victims of extreme violence and social exclusion. For the last two decades we have been witnessing a surge in violence against the Roma, such as camp evictions, deportations, police brutality—actions which remain largely unchallenged or are presented as rational in media and political discourse.
In this lecture, Dr Petre Breazu will introduce their MSCA project carried out at the Institute for Diplomacy and International Governance under the mentorship of Professor Aidan McGarry. This project investigates contemporary expressions of racism and xenophobia toward the Roma in the context of the growing populism in Europe.
Please note - This lecture will be hybrid, taking place on the London Campus in LDN.1.04 and also available via Microsoft Teams
