EU Settlement Scheme pilot
Recently the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) issued a further communication in relation to the EU Settlement Scheme pilot.
A new public phase of the EU Settlement Scheme pilot opened on 21 January 2019. The pilot is voluntary and is open to all EU citizens living in the UK who have a valid biometric passport.
As such, family members of HE staff will be able to apply for settled status during this test phase which they were not able to do during the two previous pilot phases. EU students are also able to apply.* It is also open to non-EU family members who have a valid biometric residence card.
Under this phase of the pilot and with effect from 21 January 2019, staff colleagues or students who are eligible to apply for pre-settled or settled status must be either:
- An EU citizen who has a valid biometric passport (this is an e-passport which has a digital chip), or
- A non-EU citizen family member of an EU citizen who has a biometric residence card with ‘EU Right to Reside’ on the back, which has been applied for on or after 6 April 2015.
The latest information is available from the link below.
EU citizens will still have up to 2 years after we leave the EU to apply for settled status. The Prime Minister has announced that there will be no fee when the EU Settlement Scheme opens fully on 30 March 2019. Anyone who has applied already, or who applies and pays a fee during the test phases, will have their fee refunded. Details of the refunds process will be published in due course. The deadline for applying will be 30 June 2021.
Further information is available in the EU Settlement Scheme section of the HR website immigration pages.
