The AVRC believes that its skills and abilities can help to make a significant contribution to the quality of life of disadvantaged groups, such as those subject to a disability or the impairments associated with ageing. This can take the form of addressing immediate problems and issues where possible and also of conducting longer-term research and development into beneficial systems and products.

'ART' - Attention Responsive Technology.

This exciting research and development project aims to utilise people's direction of gaze to intuitively select appropriate controls for interacting with ICT devices in their immediate environment. It does so by a combination of eye-tracking and machine vision processes to monitor both the user and any controllable objects within their environment. This work has recently been extended under the project name ARTIFICE.

COGAIN - Communication by Gaze Interaction.

We are partners in COGAIN which is a Network of Excellence on Communication by Gaze Interaction, supported by the European Commission's IST 6th Framework programme. COGAIN integrates cutting-edge expertise on interface technologies for the benefit of users with disabilities. The network aims to gather Europe's leading expertise in eye tracking integration with computers in a research project on assistive technologies for citizens with motor impairments.
