These data consist of place mentions on the front page of the business section of the following city newspapers: Boston Globe, Chicago Tribune, Los Angeles Times, Miami Herald, New York Times, and San Francisco Chronicle. This was a data collection experiment using 1990 as sample year within which 24 days were selected for examination. The latter were chosen as follows: the first working day of each month plus the same day the following week. A total of 4246 place references were recorded. There is some analysis of these data in GaWC Research Bulletin 1 and further discussion of the measurement methodology in GaWC Research Bulletin 2.
