Loughborough University and Santander Universities UK confirm new agreement

The new agreement will enable the University to offer Santander Universities scholarships and mobility scholarships to students and staff who are travelling to countries within the Santander Universities network for research purposes. Sports scholarships and sports team sponsorship are also being supported under the new agreement.

Funding will be given to student and graduate enterprise activities and to Loughborough Students’ Union to further develop their International Student Groups and encourage inclusion of students from all countries and subject disciplines.

In addition, Santander are supporting internship and placements through a donation of an additional £30,000 for 2016/17.

Since the partnership was first formed in 2008, Santander Universities UK has donated over £1.4 million to the University to fund a wide range of initiatives.

The agreement was formally signed by Loughborough University’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Robert Allison, and Director of Santander Universities UK, Matt Hutnell, in an event hosted by the University today.

The event provided members of the Santander Group with an opportunity to meet beneficiaries of the Santander funding to demonstrate the impact of their donation.

Professor Robert Allison commented: “We are absolutely delighted to be working with Santander Universities UK for another three years. The relationship with Santander Universities is very special to us at Loughborough and we are particularly proud of all that has been achieved through it.

"Over the past eight years, more than 400 scholars have benefited from the partnership and Santander support. We would like to say a huge thank you to Santander Universities for their continued support. We look forward to the next three years.”

Matt Hutnell of Santander Universities, added: “After 8 years of partnership between Loughborough and Santander the benefits that this relationship has brought to the university community are widespread around campus. Loughborough is an innovative institution and has always been open to new projects from Santander such as our SME Internship programme or our support to entrepreneurs. It is this collaborative approach between both parties that has allowed this partnership to flourish.”
