Loughborough University secures 36th BUCS title

Presented at the BUCS Annual Awards Dinner, part of the week long BUCS Conference at Warwick University, current Vice President for Sport Luke Thomson received the award on behalf of the 4,500 students that make up Loughborough’s Athletic Union.

The final points tally saw Loughborough finish top on 5,793 points, some 1,700 points clear of Durham and Edinburgh, who had a close fought battle for second.

As always Loughborough were dominant in the individual sports, winning numerous individual titles as well as team honours in athletics, badminton, swimming and snowsports, four of our biggest Athletic Union clubs.

There were also team titles in cricket and hockey, whilst the men’s rugby team narrowly missed out on the BUCS title in the final at Twickenham.

Of the achievement Director of Sports Development Tim Garfield commented:

“Naturally we’re delighted to retain our BUCS title and further extend our winning streak. Having said that the competition is undoubtedly getting stronger we must continue to keep improving; the moment we get complacent is the moment that our winning run will come to end.

“Congratulations to each and every student who has played a part in our success, both past and present.”
