Students rate Loughborough in country’s top 5

Loughborough University has finished Top 5 in the annual National Student Survey (NSS), securing one of its best ever results.

83% of Loughborough’s finalists completed the independent survey, which asks students for honest feedback about what it’s like to study their course at their institution, and to rank their overall satisfaction for the University and the Students’ Union.

91% of Loughborough students were satisfied with their course (up from 89% last year and well above the sector average of 86%), and the University’s average satisfaction rating of 87.1% across all seven categories places it fifth in the UK.

This year’s figures see Loughborough rise three places from its 2014 finish, and rank as the top East Midlands university by some margin.

And the Students’ Union was also ranked highly - finishing 3rd of all University Students’ Unions in the country.

Loughborough University Vice Chancellor Professor Robert Allison said:

“Loughborough is committed to providing its students with a world class experience, and preparing them for life after University.

“In a year we were named University of the Year at the What Uni Student Choice Awards, and achieved 2nd in the THE Student Experience Survey, it is heartening to see these figures from the NSS, which show students are genuinely satisfied with the educational experiences and opportunities we are providing.”

Loughborough Students’ Union (LSU) President Jess Excell said:

“To be ranked in the national top three is a fantastic achievement for the Students’ Union, and we hope to build on this again next year.

“LSU aims to be the driving force behind the UK’s best student experience, giving students amazing opportunities across volunteering, fundraising, sports and activities, and supporting them in their studies.”

1.         The NSS covers nearly all final-year undergraduates studying for higher education qualifications at higher education institutions (HEIs) and further education colleges (FECs) in England and Wales, and HEIs in Northern Ireland and Scotland. The survey is funded by the four UK higher education funding bodies (the Higher Education Funding Council for England, the Scottish Funding Council, the Higher Education Funding Council for Wales and the Department for Employment and Learning Northern Ireland), the National College of Teaching and Leadership and Health Education England. HEIs in Scotland and participating alternative providers fund their own participation in the survey. The threshold for publication at each institution is that at least 10 students must have responded, and that these should represent at least half the students eligible to participate.

2.         The Unistats web-site will be updated with the 2015 NSS results in September. Unistats is the official site to search for and compare data and information on university and college courses from across the UK. The site draws together comparable information on those areas that students have identified as important in making decisions about what and where to study.  The data are provided by the Higher Education Statistics Agency, the Skills Funding Agency, the Welsh Government, universities and colleges and Ipsos MORI (National Student Survey).
