Cyclists from around the region are gearing up for the Big Family Bike Ride, which returns to Loughborough University later this month.

The action-packed festival, which will include BMX stunt displays, mystery treasure trail rides and free cycle maintenance sessions, will take place on Sunday 22 June.

The event officially begins at Loughborough Students' Union at 10am, but accompanied group bike rides to the festival will start at 9.30am, leaving from Gorse Covert, Shepshed or Quorn, and returning from the Students' Union at 3pm.

Peter Osborne, Leicestershire county council cabinet member for highways and transport, said: "This is a great opportunity to get involved in a whole summer of cycling. We’ve had the prestige of the Women’s Tour and watched world class athletes put through their paces – now this is an opportunity for everyone.

“The last event was a huge success and I hope that this year more people take the opportunity to find out how healthy and rewarding cycling can be by joining us at what promises to be a really fun, action packed day.

“This is also a great opportunity to find out about the cycle routes in and around Loughborough which are all an enjoyable way to travel to school, work and for leisure.

“It doesn’t matter whether you are an experienced cyclist or never ridden a bike before, there’s something for everyone so come and join in for some free cycling fun.”
