School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering

The home of world-leading engineering, we have an international reputation for being at the forefront of technological innovation and for maintaining extensive links with and making significant impacts in industry.

Join our welcoming and dynamic School

We have opportunities across all our academic grades - Professor, Reader, Senior Lecturer and Lecturer - and aligned to a number of research priority areas.

Professorial candidates should display international credibility as research leaders with an established track record in research funding, PhD completions and a strong body of publications of international standing. Reader candidates should demonstrate national standing and a growing international reputation for their research.

Our research priority areas

Data Centric Engineering

Professor, Reader, Senior Lecturer or Lecturer in Data Centric Engineering

We are looking for candidates who have experience in the acquisition, curation and processing of real-world data in the pursuit of new engineering knowledge or solutions to engineering challenges that might be unlocked by data-centric approaches.

Candidates at all career stages who appreciate the chain of data-to-knowledge-to-value and can intersect this with machine learning, AI, data acquisition and curation are encouraged to join our academy, where a myriad of opportunities exist to pursue significant and exciting applications of data engineering.

Sports Technology

Senior Lecturer or Lecturer in Sports Technology

Applicants will share our vision that technology can enhance the experience, performance and safety of people involved in sport. Sports engineering is a multi-disciplinary activity that requires collaborative approaches to address meaningful challenges in all areas of sport, sports product, fan engagement, sports governance, or athlete welfare.

We are interested to hear from anyone interested in applying their interests to the field. Relevant areas of research include, but are not limited to: Statistical modelling, data analytics and AI in sport; Sustainability; Design for Inclusivity and diversity; Textiles and apparel and Footwear.

Control Engineering / Mechatronics Engineering

Professor, Reader, Senior Lecturer or Lecturer in Control Engineering/Mechatronics Engineering

We are looking for candidates with a strong background in control systems engineering and/or mechatronics. Your research therefore could have a focus on areas such as (but not limited to): control theory; control applications; condition monitoring; dynamic modelling for control; system identification and/or machine learning; reinforcement learning; artificial intelligence; mechatronic systems; or safety critical control. Research expertise in the development and application of control and mechatronic concepts to intractable industrial systems problems would be particularly attractive.

Robotics and Automation

Professor, Reader, Senior Lecturer or Lecturer in Robotics and Automation

We are looking for candidates with a strong background in automation and robotics to complement our extensive portfolio of activities. Our current research has a focus on industrial applications in areas such as: collaborative human-machine systems, soft robotics, sensing and perception, mechatronic systems, artificial intelligence, and/or adaptive control and autonomous systems. Research themes that address the increasing need for more adaptive and agile automation and robotic solutions in a clear industrial context would be particularly attractive.

Pulsed Power

Senior Lecturer or Lecturer in Pulsed Power

We are looking for talented and enthusiastic candidates with a strong interest in performing research into the underlying physics and technology of pulsed power-driven RF systems and their applications. This might include developing new source technologies, investigating signal coupling and processing, as well as electromagnetic propagation.

The research area would benefit from a background to PhD degree level or equivalent in electrical engineering, plasma physics or other relevant disciplines. The successful candidate will be joining a world leading and unique team of researchers.
