Warning! Importing and exporting goods in hand luggage when travelling overseas

As staff begin to travel overseas again, it is worth remembering that export and import paperwork is needed when goods are being taken out of the UK and later returned - in both the UK and overseas territory. This might be overlooked, especially if the goods are being taken out in hand luggage.

A member of staff at another university has recently taken a rather expensive piece of kit out in their hand luggage for use in research and it has been seized by the overseas Customs authorities.
