We would like to invite you to consider participating in a qualitative research study exploring how individuals who identify themselves as having current or past experiences of an eating disorder (anorexia, bulimia) use digital media (social media, Internet, apps). We are interested in how digital media use and content can be both harmful and helpful for mental health. The study is open to anyone over the age of 18 who self identifies as having current or previous experiences of eating disorders. This research does not specifically focus on Covid-19. However, we appreciate that your use of digital media may be different at this unusual time, and we would be interested in discussing this with you as well.

In a qualitative interview you will be asked to answer questions in your own words. The questions will focus on your experience of digital media use and content and what you have found harmful or helpful for your mental health.

As an optional addition we invite you to make a short 15-20 minute video diary of your digital media use (recording as you use your laptop or phone). You can choose to take part in the interview only or in both the interview and video diary parts of the study. The choice is yours.

Participating in this study will involve taking part in an interview that will last for no more than an hour via Skype or on the telephone. The optional video diary would take an additional hour.
If you are interested in taking part in this study, please contact the researcher Dr Paula Saukko via email or via telephone 01509-223357.
