Collaborative postdoctoral research opportunity at the School of ABCE

The Centre for Postdoctoral Development in Infrastructure, Cities and Energy (C-DICE) is hosting a research sandpit at the School of Architecture, Building and Civil Engineering this May to encourage novel postdoctoral research that contributes to the net zero agenda.

A sandpit puts postdoctoral researchers from different backgrounds into interdisciplinary teams to create a high-quality research proposal based on the chosen theme of the sandpit. The best proposal that emerges from this activity will be eligible to win up to £30k in seedcorn funding to pursue this research.

All participants will be provided with the tools and guidance they need to create a research proposal over three days of in-person workshops on campus – starting 23 May. They will then have another month to create the proposal with their teams and present it for a chance to receive funding.

The current sandpit explores the potential roles for hydrogen within the energy system and how progress can be accelerated. Whilst there is significant investment and opportunity, there are still barriers to the adoption of hydrogen, and many unanswered questions. This sandpit invites postdoctoral researchers to propose projects to explore this challenge, with the aim to develop solutions to better understand the interactions and support decision making.

Due to the interdisciplinary nature of the activity, participants do not need to be experts in hydrogen energy systems.

The deadline for applications is 19 May. Apply now.
